Halloween Guide 2014

Halloween’s approaching. People tend to treat Halloween a little like Marmite – some absolutely love it, some completely detest it. Whether or not you subscribe to the former or the latter doesn’t matter – what does matter is that it’s a perfect excuse to go out. I think Marmite tastes like hot sick but I’m definitely up for going out on Halloween – you see? Doesn’t matter. Just don’t dress up like a dick.

CM Presents Halloween at the Mill w/ Scuba, Jackmaster, Bicep, Levon Vincent & more.
Canal Mills are packing a predictably fearsome line-up this Halloween. They’re slap bang in the middle of one of their most successful seasons to date so expect a thoroughly well put together party. Tickets are sparse for this one but you might be lucky if you get down early. (Disclaimer: you definitely won’t get tickets – next year, eh?)
The Warehouse Project – Curated by Four Tet & Caribou w/ Carl Craig, Floating Points & more.
Essentially if you see either one of Four Tet and Caribou on a line up it’s probably going to shit you up in the most glorious of ways. When you see both it’s a stone cold knockout – you need to go, your friends need to go, your mum, your dad, your dog; everyone. Manchester never fails to provide – again, tickets are like gold-dust.
Detonate Presents Hospitality Halloween Leeds w/ Camo & Krooked, Metrik, Fred V & Grafix & more.
You might well hate the idea of ‘celebrating’ Halloween – we all do. One thing that’s not debatable however is the might of Detonate. And whenever they throw a party it certainly is worth celebrating. O2 Academy Leeds plays host to raft of heavyweights including Camo & Krooked, Metrik and Fred V. Tickets are still available, hop to it now.
Soul:ution - 31 Records LP Launch ft. Doc Brown, Marcus Intalex, Bane, MC DRS & more
Perennial drum & bass champions Soul:ution are utilising one of the best venues in the country for their Halloween bash. Don’t expect to see many costumes though (in fact, if you come in a costume then this night isn’t for you) – this is about the music – Doc Brown, Marcus Intalex, Bane & more are in residence on the ones and twos for a 31 Records LP launch. Real nice.
Switch Feat. Gorgon City and My Nu Leng
Men of the moment Gorgon City (you may have heard the little-known ‘Ready For Your Love’ ft. MNEK – which has only received about 20 hours of airplay a day on most of the nation’s radio stations for the last 6 months) and the ever-dependable My Nu Leng boys provide the soundtrack for Oxford institution Switch’s spooky celebrations.
The Found Horror Series Curated by George Fitzgerald and Maya Jane Coles
Spread over two nights at London’s Troxy, the Found parties over possibly the most hard-hitting line-ups over the scariest weekend of the year. Fitzgerald invites Mano Le Tough and Deetron amongst others down on the Friday night. Maya Jane Coles, not one to be outdone, has Ellen Allien, Joyce Muniz, Alex Arnout & more playing her Saturday night festivities. Which one do you choose? No doubt one of your mates who has technics in his room will call you ‘wet’ for considering only going to one rather than both, but we all know who’s the winner in that scenario. You mate, you’re the winner.

So there you have it – a selection of things to do on Halloween. Of course, you could stay inside, make a nice hot chocolate and watch ITV; which in all likelihood is what you’ll end up doing if you don’t buy your tickets like, yesterday. How spooky would that be! (not very).
